Thursday is Purse Day - Voodoo Purse

If you look at the history of Voodoo, you'll see that some of it is based on Roman Catholic beliefs.  Since a new pope was chosen yesterday, I thought this would be a good time to look at my Voodoo Purse which I made in 2007.

This is the front.  It's 12 inches from the dogwood branch handle to the bottom of the skirt.  The head is from a key chain I bought at World Market.  The body is a drapery tie-back tassel.  The fabric is place mats from Pier One.

Close up of the head, "hair", and beaded adornment.

This is a good view of some of the purse construction, if you look to the left.  The front and back are two separate, lined, flat panels that have their edges finished in a satin stitch - orange for the upper thread; green on the bobbin.  The shiny, toffee-looking rectangular object is a bead.  They looked somewhat like chicken bones to me, and I used them to join the front to the back.

The back.  I wrapped copper wire around the branches, poked it through the top of the purse, then wound the edges around themselves.

Close up view of some beading.  She looks happy, unlike the other side which has the creepy lady.

A better view of the "chicken bone" beads which line the perimeter.
