From the Vault - Spring Kimono Quilt

We woke up this morning to snow on the ground and a pair of mallards sitting on the peak of our house.  I wish the ducks would get on the ground, where they belong.  We do need a spot of color today, though, so I thought I'd show you a quilt I made in 2008.

I used the Bargello Kimono quilt pattern by Castilleja Cotton.  I bought it at Saving Thyme in 2006.  (Holy cow, it's about time I made another trip there.  I just took a peek at their web site and see they have a nice selection of Art Gallery fabric.)

I call this one Spring Kimono because I decided to make one for every season.  I made Spring, Summer, and Autumn.  Then I got sick of making them.

I did different quilting on each of the quilts.  This was my first kimono, so I went with simple.  I stitched in the ditch on the kimono itself, and stippled the borders.

In this sleeve detail, you can see a beautiful fabric that looks like a watercolor of a flower (4th strip from the right).  I chose bright spring greens and pinks and purples that you see on flowering trees.

In this detail of the bottom you see a mix of batiks and non-batiks.  I don't usually mix them, but I think it worked OK in this case.
