Framed

Some people find frames comforting.   Known boundaries.  Makes it easy to categorize what's in, what's out.   Looks cozy inside the frame.  And sometimes the frames can be as much fun as what's in the center.

This is one of the blocks I'm making in the nine design compositions I talk about periodically.  This composition is "framed."

Sometimes I frame blocks, like these two log cabins.

The two smaller frames are recent finds at a thrift store.  I'm going to use them to frame small embroidery pieces.

The large black frame is a bulletin board with a seagrass, instead of cork, background.  I just bought it last week because I wanted a mood board.  I'll be starting a new occasional feature called "I'm In the Mood For ...".  I'll have the mood board set up with inspiration for a single project.  Then I'll show you the project when it's done.

Speaking of moods, I was sure in the mood for some spring flowers so I went to a local nursery yesterday.  My husband and I aren't big fan of pansies, so I was really happy to find this assortment of alternatives.  From the top, clockwise, we have
  • Margarita Daisies (pink and purple)
  • Snapdragons (yellow)
  • Dianthus (fuschia)
  • Alyssum (lavender)
  • Petunia (deep violet)
  • Lobelia (pale blue) in the center
This might be the only spot of color in the yard, but it's right by the door so we see it frequently.  And it makes it easy to bring the pot inside on those nights that are below freezing.

Think spring and say "hooray" for all the rain we're getting!!!!   Just stay inside and make things!
